Part of our Platinum Jubilee collection, The Emblems of the Sovereign is a goldwork embroidered art piece made in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II. Hidden in the roots of the plants are the dates 1952-2022 to commemorate this historic milestone.

The central motif is inspired by the blue & gold Damask frontal - used for interior decoration of Westminster Abbey for the coronation of Elizabeth II. It depicts the first heraldic emblem of the Sovereign to show both the kingdoms of England (Rose), Scotland (Thistle) and Ireland (Shamrock) as well as the Principality of Wales (Leek). The border is inspired by the Purple Robe of Estate worn by The Queen at her Coronation in 1953 - gold embroidery on the robe incorporates olive branches and wheat ears, symbolising peace and prosperity.
