FAQ - Live Online Classes

Learn a new skill right from your home with our bespoke online classes. The embroidery stitches are shown from multiple points of view making learning the techniques as similar as possible to an in person class experience. The classes will cover the basics, insider tips and practical application, making sure you are fully equipped to go on and apply what you have learned to your future projects and develop your own unique style. If you are learning a new skill for a specific purpose and need a little advice, our teachers will be able to talk to you about how you can best apply what you have learnt to your specific project. Upon successful completion of the class you can request an official Hand & Lock certificate detailing the new skills mastered.

Who teaches the classes at Hand & Lock?

Our bespoke online classes are taught by expert hand embroiderers who have worked in the couture industry for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Burberry to name a few. All of our teachers are always embroiderers first and teachers second, making them the best people to teach you some new techniques and help you apply it to your work.

Will the online classes be recorded?

We encourage you to attend all the online classes to get the best experience and tutor support. However, all of our online classes are recorded and the videos are then sent out to all students at the end of each class. The recordings can then be downloaded so you can re-watch them at your leisure between classes and after the course has ended.

Do I need any prior hand embroidery knowledge before taking a class?

We try to keep our classes open to all skill levels, allowing people with different levels of experience to work and learn together. If the course is aimed at more of an experienced embroiderer we will note this in the product description, so always check the description for your specific course details.

What if I can't make it to the class?

If you miss an online class session the recordings of each class are sent out at the end of the day so you can watch them back at your leisure without having to worry about potentially missing content. We highly recommend that you try to attend all the classes to get the best experience and tutor support.

What materials do I need for the course?

All of our online courses include the materials and tools you will need to complete your course. These will be sent to you 2 weeks prior to the class, if you haven't received your kit within a week of the class starting please email school@handembroidery.com.

All Shipments outside the UK take 2 weeks, please do not book onto this class if the class is less than 2 weeks away as we cannot guarantee the materials will make it to you in time. Shipments in the UK take approximately 3 working days.

If it's an online class can I attend from a different timezone?

Our online classes are perfect for learning hand embroidery outside of the UK. All of the course times are BST. If you cannot attend due to the time difference or any other reason the recordings of each class are sent out at the end of the day so you can watch them back at your leisure without having to worry about missing anything. We also run Online Masterclasses which can be taken in your own time see more details here.

If I need more kit supplies what do I do?

All of the materials included in the kit are available to purchase from Hand & Lock on our website here and in store if you would like extra supplies for future projects.
