Our high quality tambour needles come with a wood and brass holder, the needle length is adjustable to suit your needs.

A tambour hook, also known as a tambour needle or tambour crochet hook, is a specialised tool used in tambour embroidery, a technique that involves creating chain stitches with a continuous thread on fabric stretched tightly in a tambour frame.

The tambour hook consists of a small, elongated hook attached to a handle. The hook is designed to catch and manipulate a continuous thread or yarn as it is passed through the fabric in a series of chain stitches.

In tambour embroidery, the fabric is stretched tautly in a tambour frame, similar to a large embroidery hoop. The embroiderer holds the tambour hook in one hand and manipulates the fabric with the other hand, guiding the hook through the fabric to create stitches. The hook is inserted from the underside of the fabric, catching the thread or yarn, and then pulled back through to the surface, forming a chain stitch. The process is repeated, creating a continuous line of stitches to form intricate designs and patterns.

Tambour hooks come in various sizes and shapes to accommodate different types of thread or yarn and fabric weights, with 70 being the smallest size. They are essential tools for tambour embroidery, allowing embroiderers to work quickly and efficiently to create delicate and detailed designs on fabric.

These high quality tambour hooks are used by our Hand & Lock embroiderers in the studio and our professional tutors in their tambour classes.
