Hand & Lock present a pop up two day London embroidery exhibition featuring the best embroidery from around the world. The event marks the final judging and exhibition stage of the annual Hand & Lock Prize for embroidery, a unique global competition created to highlight and promote the work of emerging embroidery artisans. The exhibition will take place at:
Where: The Historic Bishopsgate Institute, 230 Bishopsgate,
Spitalfields, London, EC2M 4QH
Date: Wednesday 20th - Thursday 21st November 2019.
Opening Hours: Wed: 12.00 - 20.00. Thu: 10.00 - 17.00
In addition to seeing 24 of the best contemporary embroidered artworks and garments, attendees will have a chance to vote on their favourite pieces and help crown the overall winners. The Prize exhibition and Prizegiving marks the point when the finalists, who come from the USA, Spain, Canada, Israel, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands and the UK, compete face to face for a share of the $26,000 prize fund.
The 2019 design brief called for embroiderers to ‘Fool the senses’ and for designers to consider every surface and texture as inspiration: concrete walls, woven rugs, cold steel, fake fur, old leather, fine crystal, rich velvet and coarse hessian. Their final designs should confuse and delight the senses.
Your ticket allows unlimited attendance to the exhibition for the full duration of the pop-up.
