Duration: 6 Consecutive 3 hour weekly sessions
A series of six, three hour online classes, this course is designed to introduce budding embroiderers to a selection of techniques we use here at Hand & Lock and in the world of couture embroidery. Exploring hand embroidery with a range of different materials, this class gives students an insight into the world of unconventional couture. The techniques taught in this class are used regularly in London, Paris and New York couture houses and are often seen on the catwalk. You will use a range of materials which will be applied in various techniques to create different effects.
The images for this class showcase a range of the techniques and materials you will be using to create a beautiful, bespoke couture hand embroidered piece.

- Bespoke Hand Beading
- Silk Floss & Stranded Thread Work
- Contemporary Goldwork
- Contemporary Crewelwork
These bespoke online classes are taught be expert hand embroiderers who have worked in the couture industry for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Burberry to name a few. The classes will cover the basics, insider tips and practical application making sure students are fully equipped to go on and apply what they have learned to their own garments and develop their own unique styles.
Classes are provided through Zoom and students are sent a special link to watch join the live class. The recordings are then sent out at the end of each session, once downloaded students are able to keep these for as long as they like.

Students will also be asked to join a communal WhatsApp group with the students in your class. This allows the tutor to share close up images of stitches that are not visible through zoom. Students will also be invited to share their work for feedback. If you do not want to participate in the WhatsApp group please let us know.
