Hand & Lock Studio Tour and Mini Goldwork Taster - London Hat Week

Hand & Lock's expert guided tours get you exclusive access to parts of the studio that are not open to the public. During the tour you will be guided around the newly refurbished studio, learning about the history of Hand & Lock and the ancient techniques we still use today.
Hand & Lock, Goldwork specialists since 1767, also bring you a taster class for complete beginners, providing an insight into the possibilities of working with gold metal bullions. Goldwork is the art of embroidery using metal threads. Using threads that are imitation gold, silver, copper, or coloured allows embroiderers to create metallic surface designs that reflect light and create dazzling effects.
The day begins with a guided tour of Hand & Lock's central London studio where you will learn about the ancient techniques we still use today. There will be a break for lunch (not provided) followed by a 2.5 hour workshop
At the end of the class you will have a specially embroidered ribbon to tie in your hair or around a sun hat!
In this special tour and taster class , during London Hat Week, you will gain an insight to a working London Embroidery studio and learn the basic stitches involved in goldwork.
