Welcome to a two-day embroidery course taught by Emily Botelho AKA Salt Stitches, where you will have the opportunity to explore embroidery from a more abstract perspective. In this course, you will learn how to create a finished piece of work inspired by a natural texture, using both traditional embroidery techniques and incorporate beading and semiprecious stones to add areas of detail and texture.
On day one, Emily will guide you through the fundamentals of embroidery, including selecting your background texture, threads, and different needles. You will learn a variety of stitches and techniques, including satin stitch, a variation of turkey stitch, and French knots. Emily will also teach you how to experiment with color and texture to create a unique and visually striking piece.
On day two, you will take your skills to the next level by learning how to incorporate beading and semiprecious stones into your embroidery work. Emily will show you how to use these materials to add areas of detail and texture to your pieces, creating a dynamic and dimensional effect. You will also explore the use of negative space in your embroidery, using it to create an intuitive finished piece.
Throughout the course, Emily will encourage you to approach your work from a more abstract perspective, allowing you to explore new techniques and push the boundaries of traditional embroidery. By the end of the course, you will have created a unique and beautiful embroidery piece that showcases your newfound skills and creativity.

About the Artist
Meet Emily Botelho, also more widely known online as Salt Stitches. a self-taught embroidery artist who has a deep passion for working with natural textures found in different environments. With a keen eye for detail and a love for exploring the beauty of nature, Emily has mastered the art of creating stunning and original abstract embroidery works.
Using a variety of techniques and materials, Emily brings to life the natural textures found in different landscapes, from the Swiss Alps to the tidal pools of the Anglesey Coastline.
Originally from Manchester, but now based near Toronto, Emily has spent the last 5 years curating an archive of textures that inform her work.
Despite being entirely self-taught, Emily has gained international recognition for her work, exhibited in galleries in the UK and US, and has garnered a loyal following of collectors and admirers.
For any of our in person courses please feel free to bring your own Magnifying Glasses or Lamps. We will supply needle threaders for you if required.
