Tambour Beading a technique devised as an easy, fast and and texture to clothes or accessories. Sometime called Haute Couture beading the technique can be frequently seen on fashion runaway.
Hand & Lock have been using the ancient technique known as Goldwork to apply a metallic, rich finish to couture for nearly 250 years. Traditionally for ceremonial, ecclesiastical or military garments, Goldwork is a great technique to instantly give a dynamic aesthetic and glamour. Using metal bullions in an array
of colours – embroiderers can give their weight and sophistication.
A delicate monogram hand sewn in fine silks has long been seen as the height of sartorial sophistication. For years the Savile row tailors have been sending shirts to Hand & Lock to have fine letters stitched into the fabric.
Silk Shading, also known as painting with thread is possibly the most artistic embroidery skill you can master. Students will learn how to blend coloured threads to produce depth and realism in their embroidery. The class covers the basics, insider tips and practical application making sure students are fully equipped to go on and apply what they have learned to their own garments and interiors.
All classes are suitable for beginners or professionals.
Classes take place at the Hand & Lock studio at 86 Margaret Street, London. The nearest tube station is Oxford Circus.
