This June, Hand & Lock will be teaching the famous embroidery technique, Tambour beading in a dedicated classroom above their workroom. Tambour Beading is a professional embroidery technique that is popular on International Catwalks and frequently seen in shows by Elie Saab, Ralph and Russo and Oscar De La Renta.  Also known as Lunéville or Crochet de Lunéville the technique emerged from French lace makers before becoming a popular pass-time of wealthy ladies of leisure. In modern Tambour Beading beads or sequins are attached to fabric using a special tambour hook. The embroidery accomplished with a tambour hook working through a fabric stretched tight as a drum. In this five day, class students will learn how to create a design, set up a full-size frame and learn how to effortlessly work the hook through the fabric. Once the technique is perfect, students will learn how to use the chain stitch to attach sequins, beads and bugles in a variety of configurations creating beautiful surface decorations and textures.
