Data Storytelling in Stitch with Jordan Cunliffe
Location: Hand & Lock Studio (86 Margaret Street, W1W 8TE, London)
Date: 10th-11th June 2023
Participants will be invited to bring a special memory or story to the workshop, along with some sentimental fabric if they wish. Using examples from my own portfolio, I will discuss various ways in which data visualisation can be used to create an embroidered keepsake, including instruction on how to plot out the design beforehand. Using different stitch techniques, participants will be encouraged to be adventurous in the way they tell their story, and we will work together to find the best way to share each narrative in order to create a one-off piece of heirloom textile art, using needle and thread to capture a special moment in time forever.
Jordan Cunliffe is a textile artist and author based in Lancashire. She works in data visualisation and embroidery, sharing personal stories through stitch. With a BA in Embroidery, and an MA in Textiles, Jordan has honed her style into a pared back, laborious, hand stitched approach to data visualisation, using this medium to create meaningful pieces of art out of intangible concepts. Jordan is the author of ‘Record, Map and Capture in Textile Art’ published by Batsford in 2021.
