Tambour beading, also known as Lunéville or Crochet de Lunéville, is a French Haute Couture technique where beads or sequins can be attached to a fabric. The embroidery is done with a special hook working through fabric stretched tight as a drum.

For one weekend, join Hand & Lock's expert practitioners to learn this couture embroidery technique popular on international catwalks and seen in shows by designers such as Elie Saab and Oscar De La Renta.

Our bespoke classes are taught be expert hand embroiderers who have worked in the couture industry for brands such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Dior, Valentino, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, YSL, Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana, Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Burberry to name a few. The classes will cover the basics, insider tips and practical application making sure students are fully equipped to go on and apply what they have learned to their own garments and develop their own unique styles. For any of our in person courses please feel free to bring your own Magnifying Glasses or Lamps. We will supply needle threaders for you if required.

Testimonials:

'I've been so impressed with Hand and Lock and the tutors. The materials are exquisite. It's all just so wonderful. Also I've taken a lot of courses and Hand & Lock tutors are the best tutors out of all of them. I love that the tutor encouraged us to make the patterns our own. We can tweak the style a bit and it's not a big deal. So fun to learn techniques but not feel constrained by them.'

'Lots of information given about the course every week. I liked the addition of the tutor’s own ideas to give me further inspiration. Felt encouraged whilst taking course as it is a difficult skill. Great course. Thank you.'

'I really like the different designs and ideas you have and the support during course work is excellent.'

'The tutor's feedback was really sweet and encouraging. I am rather ambitious when it comes to technical stitch level so for me it works well to mention things that are not great yet so that I know how to improve them.'
