Creative Embroidery with Erin LedsomSKU2288HL
Erin is a hand embroidery artist from Hull in the north of England and a graduate from The Royal School of Needlework with a First Class BA (Hons) in hand embroidery. Erin immerses herself in colour, pattern and texture, using found and recycled items within her work through a combination of processes within her embroidery she uses unconventional materials and makes them conventional. Using traditional hand embroidery techniques but with a contemporary twist, Erin believes texture plays a significant part in embroidery and with the use of imagination and manipulation of unusual materials Erin brings her work to life. Erin has exhibited pieces of her work at The Ferens Open Exhibition in Hull and has been awarded ‘The Future Ferens Young and Emerging Talent Prize’ two years in a row!
Erin will introduce participants to herself and her work, explaining and showing what she has achieved and how she works with hand embroidery. Participants will be shown how to apply unusual materials such as plastic strings, hair bobbles, straws and more to a colourful fabric design! Participants will learn many different techniques such as crewelwork, goldwork and 3D beading and use these to add unconventional materials and make them conventional! By the end of the course participants will have their very own 3D hand embroidered abstract piece of textiles inspired by Erin’s work.
