|This year we are excited to announce that the Editor of Selvedge Magazine Polly Leonard is presenting a talk titled 'Folk Embroidery' as part of the Hand & Lock Festival of Embroidery.
Folk Embroidery could be called the embroidery of the people, with its lineage spanning from eastern Europe through to Mexico. Polly Leonard will discuss how theseworks have inspired designers including Susanne Bisovsky, Vita Kin and Ace & Jig as well as how embroidery has become abroader part of our visual language.
The talk will be held at the Hand & Lock Studio at 86 Margaret Street, London on Tuesday 18th July at 7.00pm with a drinks reception starting at 6.30pm
Polly Leonard is the founder of Selvedge Magazine. After gaining a degree in Design from Glasgow School of Art and a Masters in Fine Art from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia Polly taught textiles for ten years before her obsession with textiles lead to her launching Selvedge in 2003. The magazine is published six times per year and has expanded into an entire textile community with a shop, seasonal fairs, workshops and creative collaborations.
